Designing a unified TV app for all the BBC’s best content
In a true baptism of fire, my first ever connected TV app was for arguably the world's most famous media company, and supporting one of the most challenging possible propositions: bringing together long-form documentary series and movies, short-form news video, and podcasts, into a single, cohesive TV experience.
I planned and led the design process, starting with nearly zero product requirements, and ending with a brand new BBC CTV design system, and a fully realised app experience.

A tiny portion of the extensive new CTV library I built to support the ongoing development of the product. The library allowed us to rapidly prototype within Figma.

The unique challenge of this product was housing long-form documentaries, news and short-form video, and podcasts in one cohesive experience and distinguishing between them.

The audio experience needed to be cohesive with audio playback on mobile and web, while also being consistent with the TV video play experience.

I designed a range rail types to provide the curation team with a dynamic and interesting way to show the BBC's content. A modular system of rails allowed for ordering in any combination when building pages.
